Sayonara

Micheal Jackson - One of the worlds greatest entertainers and possibly histories weirdest man. He's probably lived one of histories weirdest lives so he came by it naturally.

Farah Fawcett - One of the most masturbated to celebrities of the 70's thanks to Charlies Angels and an iconic swimsuit photo poster.

Ed McMahon - Brought joy to the lives of the lucky few to receive a knock on the door from Publishers Clearinghouse.

(Plus they all accomplished a lot of other shit. But these are the first things that come to my mind when thinking of them)

Busy day in the NBA

Shaq is now in Cleveland.

Vince Carter is now in Orlando. (A few weeks too late, they won't make the 2010 finals)

And now its time for the draft.

Thanks Knicks for giving the Lakers 3 million for something they didn't want in the first place!

Lakers are still going to win another one in 2010 despite all of the frantic efforts of every other team.

Brandon Jennings Highlight Reel

Brandon Jennings, the standout highschool basketball player who signed a deal to play professionally in Greece, rather than play for the NCAA before the NBA, is ready to be drafted. He has a legitimate chance of being drafted in the top 5 next week. I can see this guy playing the same type of critical role that other high profile quick PG's currently play such as Rondo, Rose, Parker, and Chris Paul. Interesting to see this story play out, as he is a trailblazer of American basketball. His time over seas has inspired Jeremy Tyler to skip his senior season of High School and go overseas to play pro ball. The Mandatory NCAA rule in the NBA is silly and in some ways exploitative of these players. David Stern look at the leagues best. How many went to college?

Kobe and Luke

Another gem from theOnion.com:

"I was so sick of hearing people say how I couldn't do it with Luke out there,"
said Bryant, acknowledging that his teammate's deficiencies have overshadowed
the Lakers since Walton was drafted in 2003. "It gets annoying to hear that
question over and over, but you can't argue it. You can't deny it. You have to
show that you can prevail alongside one of the worst small forwards in the
game."

Love Luke by the way.

15 Rings

Finally, 7 seasons since their last 'Chip they've added another trophy to the collection. Re-reading that last sentance (especially the "finally") made me realize how spoiled us Laker fans are, thats what a history of greatness will do. No more debate about these issues. The Lakers are the best team in all of sports. They've played for a championship in half of the leagues 60 years, and won a quarter of all NBA championships, in fact they've only missed the playoffs 5 times. Kobe is the best in Basketball, It's not time to debate this, it's truer now than ever before. Really analyze the season that just passed and the dominating playoffs that Kobe just played, He averages over 30 pts. 5 rebs. and 5 ast. and did it more efficiently and effectively than anyone else playing today and hardly anyone mentions the amazingness of it. It is just part of Kobe, people hate the man and he continues to take what he wants. And lastly Phil Jackson is the greatest coach in American sports history. 10 rings in 18 seasons, unbeleivable. Oh yeah, and when his career is over Pau will go down as one of the best offensive big men EVER, mark my words. It's great to be a fan! Los Angeles championship city!

14 down 2 to go

Lucky Break for the Lakers on that last shot of regulation. It probably would've been a made shot without the last second defense by Pau. And no that shouldn't have been goal tending, watch the video the rim did not vibrate or move and it had no effect on the shot missing.

The Destroyer or the Creator?

Must read article from Henry Abbott of Truehoop.com:

Im tired of hearing this story:

A Destructive Force, Dangerous. That's the idea. He's a gunslinger. He leads the
league in stepping on opponent's throats.

He cares less about
others, and that's the defining greatness of Kobe
Bryant, as the story is told.
I'm much more interested in this one. I've seen numerous times over the past few
years where stars have talked of Kobe asking about their signature move and then
using it to beat them. I'ts truly amazing, and unique as far as I know.

(He) Will not only use All-Star Weekend to ask Gary Payton how to defend the
screen and roll, as told in Lazenby's "The Show," but then immediately
implements the advice and goes, over a weekend, from being a liability to an
all-NBA defender?
Dude is incredible. When we look at the amazing way that he thinks and how that translates to his game, it's apparent he will go down as one of the 5 best players in basketball history.

Read the Article here.

I met him last summer before the Olympics, he was amazing, he took a few minutes to talk to me and 3 year old son (a huge Power Rangers fan who calls Kobe, "Kobe Bryant Megazord", in reference to the huge unstoppable machines that the rangers fight Godzilla like monsters with).
It was really a great interaction, he signed the stuff that we brought for him to sign and then signed my all black Lakers fitted that my son had on his head, while chatting with me about the season that just passed and the upcoming Olympics. To all of the people that claim he is fake, I didn't sense any of that. Kobe stopped by this event in between training sessions for his youth basketball academy and he seemed very happy to do all of it.

Way past the end

For all of you who don't know, the Black Eyed Peas best work was long ago. 1998's "Behind the Front" is a masterpeice so if you haven't heard, go listen to it. Also the groups 2000 album "Bridging the Gap" was real hip-hop. Then they decided that they wanted to make some major dough (I'm not hating) and they brought on some questionably talented and ugly meth head, former Kid's Incorporated and Wild Orchid member Stacy "Fergie" Ferguson. Musically speaking it went downhill from there, but critically and commercially they were now recognized as being great artists. Will.I.Am is an incredible producer and songwriter, it's just sad that the world needs him to use a little white girl to get it out. If your a fan of pop (not real hip-hop) this is for you my freind (or maybe your woman). OK thats enough of my ranting.

Must Read

This well written article goes in depth to break down the "pretty good" conference finals of Kobe Bryant against the "amazing" conference finals of Lebron James. If people truly appreciated the Black Mamba for the player he is they would be less likely to keep touting Lebron as the "King" of the NBA. By all traditional means Kobe had a WAY better series than did Lebron. Use your eyes (and hopefully your minds) people, Kobe is KING.

Poor sad Duke James

Let me start this off by saying that I am in no way a "Lebron Hater", dude is really good. I mean really, really good. He can do just about anything on the basketball court. He has been the best player in his age group all his life.

BUT...

People are ready to give him the world. Just because he has unparalleled physical abilities does not make him a "winner" and definitely not a Champion. How many great players never won 'chips? Elgin Baylor made it to the Finals 8 times without ever winning. Karl Malone never won, nor did George Gervin, Patrick Ewing, Pete Maravich, Charles Barkley, Alex English, Dominique Wilkins and many more of the sports all time greats never won. Just because he is as talented as he is many people say he will have more than Jordan by the time he retires. I'm not gonna say he won't, but stop giving him everything, let him earn something.

Look at these crazy examples:

Oh Come on!

Are They Serious?

A new era? WTF

Let the guy earn the accolades and the awards and yes even the nicknames. Just what exactly is this guy the King of? He hasn't won anything, hes by no means the businessman that he wants you to believe he is, Nike just has a good marketing plan around the guy. Phil Knight is the businessman not Lebron.

What this really boils down to is he acted like a BITCH when he didn't get what he thought was his. Why did he think it was his before he earned it? Because media and fans have anointed him some kind of god. It's ridiculous! He's just a man (yes he's huge and freakishly fast and has springs in his legs, but still just a man). He wouldn't shake the hands of the Orlando Magic after he was beat, even his Olympic teammate Dwight Howard got the cold shoulder. In the words of Diddy "NO MORE BITCHASSNESS!!!"

...Oh yeah and Kobe is better. Not by virtue of his natural abilities; but by the strength, toughness, drive, and unstoppable will to improve his game.
